Established in 2024, the founders of Stocks of the Bushveld have been in the firearm industry for
over 20 years.
Barn finds of various African exotic hardwoods, African hardwoods and African/Worldwide wood
together with all the beautiful patterns that natural wood has to offer, led to a passion for wooden
rifle stocks that has grown over the years.
In a market that has been flooded with aluminium and composite stocks, imported wood and
laminate stocks, 99% of wooden rifle stocks are made from either Turkish or American walnut or
imported laminate wood. Over the past few years intensive research and tests have been done to
create a rifle stock from African exotic woods. Up to now, African woods have seldom been used for
rifle stocks as most are not readily available like the foreign imported woods.
Gunstock builders have been either scrapping the stock or not even attempting to build with African
woods as issues of cracking, wood knots, burls and wood destroying insects causing damage to the
wood are experienced. Coupled with the fact that there is a longer lead time for wood stocks as
most of them are custom handmade and the African woods are not available in the required gun
blank sizes, grades nor correctly air dried to about 22% then kiln dried to about 10% moisture
content.
However, the shooting experience, feel and sound of wood rifle stocks for hunting, F-class, PRS, NRL
and ELR inspired a custom Stocks of the Bushveld patent pending process to stabilise and cure
African woods making it possible for you to experience a wooden rifle stock with a 10-year warranty
on your purchase.
In reality, African wood stocks with defects make awesome rifle stocks with beautiful wood patters
and a much heavier wood to work with for various shooting disciplines. However, not all shooters or
hunters like heavy wood rifle stocks which has led to the manufacture of African laminates where
lighter woods are combined with heavier woods to produce a lighter, durable rifle stock.
The laminating process has been perfected through intense studies and tests to ensure the best
possible, durable laminate wood stock. Manufactured with a custom-built laminating machine,
ensuring maximum industry suggestion pressure per square inch for laminating wooden rifle stocks,
these custom rifle stocks each carry their own unique serial number. As the selection of wood used
for the solid wood blanks together with the variety and combination of wood used for the laminates
is not mass produced, Stock of the Bushveld guarantees that no two rifle stocks will look the same.
The machining of Stock of the Bushveld rifle stocks is carried out by Mad Guns Rifle Stocks who also
supply the Adjustable Cheek Raiser, 2-Way and 3-Way Length of Pull. APW supply the Picatinny and
ARCA rails while the Bag Riders are supplied by Longshot Precision in the USA. Stocks of the Bushveld
handle the stock finishing, hardwood laminating and stabilizing.
The result is a wood rifle stock range that Stocks of the Bushveld are proud to present to the market.
A range that we are sure will be well received within the shooting and hunting communities.
